So tonight I come home to a flower attached to my door. It's an interesting thing. Not so much the fact that it was there (which was rather surprising, I admit), but the whole valentine's day concept. Yes, I know it's a 'Hallmark Holiday' so that people can make a lot of money selling flowers and candy and chocolate and lingerie and whatever else. But it seems to have gotten beyond that, there's more to it now.
For people who don't have one, it's no longer a day of mourning. Okay, we're still disgusted at all the cutesiness and we're possibly slightly upset that we're not involved in any. However, it now comes with opportunities. "Single on VDay" parties, for example. Can you imagine if VDay fell on a Friday? Go to a club. 98% of the people there would be single and "on the hunt." This year it was on a wednesday, and still there were those parties, the past weekend AND today. Or go to Cold Stone and find a number of people who are single, out with friends (not just because it's ice cream).
For those who do have a valentine, tt no longer seems to be completely unacceptable to do nothing about it. I know several people who didn't do anything this year, and there's no fuss about it. Maybe it's always been so and I just never noticed, but it's a change from my perspective.
Then, it's the whole concept behind it, single or no. Why would there be ONE day a year where you should tell someone how you feel? Well, there's nothing wrong with the idea. It IS nice to set aside a single day to do something nice. I don't know why it should be uniform, but ok (we could all have a different one). Personally, I'm not big on the 'telling someone how you feel' I work on the 'show someone how you feel' system. It's not always practical since it requires other people to pay attention, but ok. Flowers and chocolate are nice, but not as nice as driving way the hell out somewhere to pick someone up and save them from imminent doom (real or not) or being there for them whenever needed. It's strange that people apparently think that flowers cover for that, sometimes.

All that being said, I did appreciate the flower I got. It was an unexpected pleasure. Thanks to whomever put it there.

So for some reason I barely write in this thing. I'm not entirely positive why, maybe it's because I'm boring as hell, maybe it's because I don't like talking about shit here.... who knows. However, right now I am. Probably because I'm slightly depressed. Okay, fine, more than slightly. Now, normally, although I don't enjoy it, being depressed isn't so bad because I can localize the cause. But, right now, I can't think of one. I had a fun time today at 2 one-year-olds' birthday party. One of them tried to steal my cake =) They're my friends' kids, Kasimir and Lucien. Twins. Boys. Man am I gonna feel sorry for them. Anyway, I went to work after. I guess it might have been work, but I'm not sure. So anyway, point is, it's not localizable, which SUCKS. I use the approach that when something is wrong, I try to fix it. But it's kinda hard to fix something when you don't know what's wrong.

Ok, enough whining for now. Aside from tonight, objectively, life is pretty good.
Life is simple. Eat, sleep, kung fu.

So last night someone managed to somehow hit the side of my car and dent the hell out of it. My car was parked on the corner of a turn

and they managed to hit my driver side door. Not from someone who was supposed to be on my side of the road, mind you. Kind of impressive, they must've missed the turn completely. So I've been preparing for a big kung fu tournament coming up soon... I'm supposed to do 3 forms. A broadsword form, a stick form, and an open hand form. I think the latter two will be ok, but I'm not too sure about the first...we'll see I guess.

So there's this song where they mixed Green Day's Boulevard of Broken Dreams with Oasis' Wonderwall. I have a few comments:

(a) Green day is not cool enough to be mixed with Oasis
(b) The songs don't even match! They had to slow down the Oasis song and change the rythm of the guitar entirely!
(c) It's too long, boring and rerererepepepeptititiveveve (that was fun).
(d) What the hell was Aerosmith doing in there?????!!!!

So last night I saw 'National Treasure'. Yesterday I bought 'America: The book'. It seems I'm completely immersed in American History. Kinda weird but amusing: I learn more from stupid movies and The Daily Show than I ever did with Mrs. Kanzer, the crazy history lady. Not that there's that much American history, but still (Mwahahaha take that Americans). 'America: The book' is pretty good. It reads just like watching The Daily Show + a textbook. Speaking of books, I'm proud of myself this christmas for coming up with some original gifts for people. I did a lot better than I normally do in terms of putting thought into a present. Normally I go around until I find something and buy it. This time, I had a few that I put together, or that people were not expecting at all, or some selfmade stuff. Yay, go me!

1. Quarters are like gold.
2. Be creative in the dining hall.
3. Flip flops become as important as soap, shampoo, etc.
4. You will never find so many excuses for a bucket.
5. Asleep by 2:30 am is an early night.
6. New additions to the food groups: Mountain Dew, Doritos, Ben & Jerry's, Ho-Hos and Oreos.
7. Make sure your alarm clock has back-up batteries.
8. Showers become less important.
9. Sleep becomes more important.
10. Two meals a day are standard.
11. Recycling becomes synonymous with laundry ("Oh, my jeans can last until Christmas...there's only a *little* bit of mud on them...").
12. You can never make too many meals in a crock pot or hot plate.
13. 10 minutes is more than enough time to get ready for your first class.
14. Going to the mailbox was never an ego booster/breaker before.

My friend Jessica's kitten died today. Her name was Bella. Jessica only had her for 1.5 weeks. Her roommate found it. She wasn't doing well for a few days, and apparently she had a pretty bad parasite. Jessica took her to the vet today, but she didn't make it. Rest in peace, Bella.
